Ministry Update

Starting a ministry from scratch is both challenging and rewarding. It’s much like a business in that most fail within the first 3 years. So, It can definitely be chaotic and stressful in the beginning, but hard work and persistency pay off. I want to take a quick second to thank everyone that has helped this ministry in some way over the past three and a half years. You truly are making a difference in the lives of hurting and broken teens who desperately need God’s love and a legitimate shot at life. We are making progress, but we have a long way to go!!!

I remember back in 2010 when I started serving in the chapel service once or twice a month at JDC. That continued off and on until 2013 when we launched this ministry. We started with a chapel service on one side of the detention center with roughly 7 people. In 2014 we expanded Sunday chapel services to both sides of JDC and also added Life Skills on Monday nights. In 2015 we added Thursday night bible studies on the “B” side and hope to add a study for the girls and guys on side “A” shortly as well. We also began going into the inner city schools, mostly TRAICE Academy where all TPS suspended students are sent. A lot of these youth become delinquent and end up in JDC.

This year we launched our aftercare model “Project SafeHouse” and meet on Tuesday nights downtown to hang out in the recording studio and have bible study time. Words cannot express the joy I have in finally having a “net” for us to catch our youth in when they re-enter the community. In addition, we now serve the incarcerated youth at David L Moss every Friday. Lastly, we are sending our first group of youth to YFC CAMP this year!!!!!! We are very excited to continue growing within the lines of our mission to reach delinquent and high-risk youth. We are also hoping to have a building soon on the East side of Tulsa to utilize as a drop in center for teens year round.

As you can see, God has been really blessing this mission, thanks to the faithful donors, prayer partners, and volunteer leaders who have consistently devoted themselves to impact the lives of youth in our community. We reach approximately 80-100 youth every week between all our sites. We’re also connecting to several youth who have left JDC to go to group homes and various placements. You cannot believe what an impact this makes on a youth when you keep in touch with them through their journey. Lives are being transformed right before our very eyes and it feels great to see the fruits.

Our ministry now has 22 volunteers with 5 more in the process of joining us. Will you please pray for our ministry? We need more volunteers and leaders to continue the much needed growth of our city-wide mentoring program.

Thanks and God Bless!
